Investigate Wireless Coverage

What Is It?

Wireless coverage across campus is extensive but issues may arise that impact wireless coverage. ITS will investigate the issue and check for possible interference, coverage gaps, and device failure.

Who Is Eligible to Use It?

  • Faculty & Staff (for classrooms, offices, labs, meeting spaces)
  • Department administrators and building coordinators (for multi‑room or floor wide needs)
  • Housing/Residence Life and Student leaders (for residence hall locations)
  • Event organizers (for areas expecting unusual density/traffic)

How Do I Use It?

Provide details so we can scope the assessment correctly:

  • Location(s): Building, floor, rooms/areas (include room numbers and any adjoining spaces).
  • When the problem occurs: Days/times (e.g., M/W 10:00–11:15 during class; evenings in lounge).
  • Impact & use case: Lecture capture, exams, Zoom/Teams, streaming, handhelds/IoT, POS, etc.
  • Users & devices: Approximate headcount, device mix (laptops/phones/tablets/IoT), and SSIDs used.
  • What you observe: “Low bars,” dropped sessions, authentication loops, roaming stalls, or slow throughput; screenshots help.
  • Recent changes: Furniture moves, renovations, added partitions, or newly added equipment.
  • Contact on site: Person who can grant room access and walk with the technician if needed.
Notes & Policies

Personal/consumer Wi‑Fi gear (routers, repeaters, hotspots) is not permitted on LU networks; it degrades campus service.

  • Please remove/disable personal hotspots and consumer APs in the area under review; they cause interference and violate LU policy.
  • For one‑off device connection problems (vs. room/area issues), use Wireless Troubleshooting instead.
  • Residence‑hall coverage work may require coordination with Housing; we’ll handle the routing in your ticket.
