What Is It?
ITS provides end‑to‑end Voice over IP (VoIP) service for employees and designated campus locations. Typical requests include:
- New/changed extensions (desk phone and/or softphone), voicemail, caller ID updates, and headsets
- Phone moves and E911/emergency‑location updates as part of office relocations
- Shared lines, hunt groups, auto attendants, and departmental phones (front desks, service counters)
- Conference phones for meeting rooms and event spaces
- Troubleshooting for call quality, registration, voicemail, and feature access
LU provides employees access to the telephony resources needed for University business; requests and usage must align with University policy.
Who Is Eligible to Use It?
- Faculty & Staff: Phone lines (desk and/or softphone) for University business
- Department heads/Program directors: Requests for shared or departmental numbers, hunt groups, and auto attendants

How Do I Use It?
Provide details to help us configure correctly on the first pass:
For a new line or user change
- User information: Name, title, department, supervisor
- Location: Building/room (for E911 location accuracy and cabling readiness)
- Service type: Desk phone, softphone (computer/mobile), or both
- Features: Voicemail (yes/no), voicemail‑to‑email (if enabled at LU), shared line, hunt group membership, caller ID display name
- Accessories: Headset type (USB/BT), sidecar/expansion module (if needed at reception)
- Business need & hours: For front desk/auto attendant routing (open/closed/holiday messages)
For a move (same extension, new office)
- From/To locations: Building/room/jack label(s)
- Move date/time window and contact on site
Do not move phones yourself. ITS handles the move and updates emergency location to maintain compliance. (Use Office Move Request if you’re relocating multiple devices.)
For departmental lines / hunt groups / auto attendants
- Main number (if existing) and desired menu/flow
- Members, ring strategy (simultaneous/round robin), coverage/overflow rules, and hours
- Any holiday/closure messaging requirements
For softphone enablement *license may be required
- Device platform(s) (Windows/macOS/iOS/Android), headset needs, and remote work expectations
